Here’s today’s selection

12:20 Hereford – Manintheshadows

Pottlerath was a selection here when disappointing at Newton Abbot, so it was galling to see him win last time when unsupported. A 5lb rise is fair enough on balance, but he now finds himself having to give 3lb to Lily Glitters, and only getting 9lb from the progressive MANINTHESHADOWS, both of whom have been keeping better company, and that could prove too much for him.

The question with Lily Glitters is whether she can cope with a quick turnaround, as this comes just six days after her good second at Bangor last week, but it’s worth pointing out Lily Glitters won this last year under Alice Stevens, so this has presumably been the target.

She has also done her winning in a visor, but went without the headgear last time, and does so again here.

The Bangor run suggests she’s as effective without a visor, but marginal preference is for Manintheshadows, who took time to click in handicaps, but was sharply progressive in the spring, winning at Doncaster and Wetherby under trainer’s son AJ O’Neill, and leading when giving his young rider a rather soft unseat at Warwick in between those successes.

Manintheshadows is typical of Jonjo O’Neill’s patient approach with stayers, gaining a lowly mark having been learning on the job in his early outings, but improving plenty as he gained the benefit of experience.
