Not a race of much interest, really, but if – and only if – the rain has come in some quantity we might risk a point on TOWNSHEND (Who? A music joke there, for you all) as he’s the one most likely to appreciate plenty of cut.

Whilst clearly not the force he was (last win, two years ago, came off a mark of 139, as opposed to just 109 today) catching him fresh might be the key, with that win coming off a 271-day absence.

He’s going to be professionally ridden for the first time in a long time too, with Sam Twiston-Davies taking the ride (has won on him in the past) and we could be tempted in with a point if he’s a big double-figure price.

At Brighton, I always look out for Andrew Balding’s runners, especially if David Probert rides, and ATTACHE stands out in the Best Odds Guaranteed At vickers.bet Everyday Handicap. Probert and Balding are 8-22 when teaming up at the seaside track, and that record is better when considering Balding’s 3-y-o handicappers only, with the combination showing figures in the past five years which read 1313211.

Balding is also profitable to follow (€243.30 to a tenner at SP) when putting blinkers on for the first time, so the headgear looks a positive, and Attache is one of few with any sort of positive profile in this weak-looking handicap.

If we weren’t aware that the Fitzdares Club at Windsor was now open, then you will do by the time they’ve finished in the Fitzdares Club @windsor Is Now Open Handicap, and the first race on the track’s traditional Monday evening slot can go the way of LAWN RANGER, who ought to be eligible for life membership given he’s already registered three wins at the course from just six starts.

Michael Attwater’s gelding just failed to stay a mile and a half here last time under an aggressive ride, but his four-length third of seven to Noble Masquerade is form which gives him every chance, and the return to 10 furlongs – the distance of all three of his course wins – can be the catalyst for a return to winning ways.

His main danger is Carp Kid, who also has plenty of form at Windsor, although the selection is just the pick on balance, and the fact that Carp Kid has won just once, but been runner-up on five of his ten starts here means that the forecast or exacta looks an attractive option.
