3:25 Catterick – Turner Girl
TURNER GIRL was left poorly placed when the tempo quickened here last time, and was given a fairly easy time to finish third by Ben Curtis. In the last 12 months, Ed Dunlop has just a 4% strike-rate with horses returning from a break (60+ days), but those running less than a fortnight after a previous outing have won at a rate of 17% in that period, giving punters a profit of €133.90 to a tenner at Betfair SP.
Those stats strongly suggest a marked improvement from Turner Girl, who won over 1¾m here in July from just 1lb lower with Oisin Orr in the saddle. Orr has again been booked, and is fast becoming one of the very best riders in the north of England. Given she was beaten 20 lengths by Turbulent Power here last time and is only 3lb better off, she is unlikely to be much shorter than that mare in the betting, but with Ed Dunlop belatedly hitting form (three winners from six handicap runners in the past week), now would appear to be the perfect time to strike with Turner Girl.

3:35 Epsom – Sir Rumi
Fitness won’t be an issue for Sir Rumi in the Great Metropolitan Handicap, and it’s easy to ignore a modest run in the Rosebery Handicap at Kempton last time, which came soon enough after an excellent effort when runner-up to Bucephalus at Doncaster’s Lincoln meeting. That was a punishing contest on heavy ground, so a quick turnaround was hardly what the doctor ordered, and this son of Gleneagles is best judged on his turf form, having won over this trip at Newbury in September before a fine second to Israr on heavy ground at Doncaster the following month.
Sir Rumi is fairly handicapped (he was over seven lengths ahead of Madam Ambassador at Doncaster in October, and meets her on the same terms) and the return to 1½m will help, and while he can start slowly, the long climb from the Derby start is an opportunity to take a good position, while the booking of William Buick is definitely a plus, with the leading jockey having an excellent strike-rate here. Backing all of Buick’s mounts at Epsom over the last five seasons would see punters ahead by £284 for a tenner at SP.

The stalls at Redcar’s meeting on Easter Monday were on the stands side for the straight track races, but it didn’t take long for the jockeys to start tacking across to the middle of the track, and by the end of the day the far rail was again the place to be, as it was throughout the season in 2022.
On Monday, the stalls are in the centre, and in big fields that will see low numbers get the best of things, and the best bet in the Yorkshire Wonder Horse Handicap is GUEST LIST, who hails from a yard in good form with its turf runners, and who has both draw and testing ground as big positives.
Guest List has been runner-up on both starts to date on very soft ground, the more recent on his return from nine months off at Ayr last May. She’s not clicked since moving to Katie Scott, but caught the eye when getting a poor passage at Hamilton on debut for the yard, and shaped quite well at long odds when last seen.
Scott has been in good form of late, with form figures in the last ten days reading 141126, which includes an easy win for Slainte Mhath at the last meeting here and a successful gamble on Gweedore in a televised handicap at Musselburgh last weekend. She can clearly get her horses fit off a break, and this filly has shown she, too, can go well fresh.
