12:50 Wetherby – Robin Des Fox

Trainer Oliver Signy has an excellent strike-rate with his chasers in the last 12 months, with five winners from just nine runners over fences. Robin Des Fox was runner-up on his sole point-to-point start for Sean “Farmer” Doyle, and shaped much better than the result when last of five on his chase debut, jumping well in the early stages when on the front end, but restrained after the first few fences and losing impetus.

He disappointed over hurdles on his latest start at Lingfield, although wasn’t helped by racing on the slowest ground up the inside, and has since had wind surgery. He really does have the look of a chaser about him, and looks to have a much better chance of being competitive down in grade with the handicapper dropping him 8lb for his last two runs.

Would prefer him on good ground, but it’s encouraging that Jonjo Sanderson has stated that the ground walks good to soft in the home straight, so hopefully it won’t get too testing.
