Here’s today’s selection

7:30 Chelmsford – Mabre

MABRE had excuses on his only previous course visit and is well suited by 1m on all-weather tracks, so is taken to follow up his taking success at Kempton earlier in the month.

On that occasion, Mabre was held up towards the rear and it looked like he might be poorly positioned as the pace slackened mid-race, so it was impressive to see him cut his way so smoothly through the field and win going away by 2½ lengths.

Mabre really impressed with how hard he hit the line at Kempton, and he was in no way flattered by that run given the prominent racers were able to dictate terms. A penalty leaves him on a very fair mark of 64, with four of his six lifetime wins coming off higher marks.

The one concern would be a quick turnaround, but his latest race shouldn’t have taken much out of him, and he looks better treated than Asdaa, who was beaten under a penalty at Kempton last time, and still has to carry that extra poundage here.
