4:50 Leicester – Romantic Time
Romantic Time is taken to end a losing run. Bill Stone’s filly is very game but small and easily bullied, and as a result tends to drift back when squeezed between other runners, as she did most notably when crowded at Chelmsford in the spring. A fellow pundit and punter pointed out that all her best runs have come when she has been drawn on the wing, drawn in stall 1 for her biggest win in Group 3 company at Salisbury last year, having also gained her first win from stall 14 of 14 at Yarmouth, while a Sandown win came when drawn 6 of 6.
That’s a compelling theory, since I’ve noted her aversion to racing between other horses, and we get a chance to test the theory here as she is drawn for a solo in stall 1 here, with open space to her right. The slight query is the trip given she has a tendency to over-race and has looked a non-stayer over 7f in the past. She is definitely bred to stay, however, and was doing her best work late having been drawn between pacier rivals at Ascot last time.
